Mechanism Target Validator

Benchmark a kinetic mechanism against measured ignition delays and laminar flame speeds with Cantera. Each target gets its prediction and error, and per-reaction sensitivities rank the reactions most responsible for each miss.

Examples

Mechanism

The mechanism to benchmark: a bundled Cantera data file, a Cantera YAML (for example a reduced or fitted mechanism), or a single-file Chemkin mechanism with its thermodynamic data inline. Flame targets also need transport data. Up to 1000 species.

Target conditions

The states where the mechanism's ignition delay and flame speed are predicted and compared with reference data. Compositions use Cantera syntax (CH4:1, O2:2). Each card's id (for example ignition_0) is the condition_id its reference row uses. At least one case is required.

Ignition delay targets

Homogeneous autoignition in a constant-volume or constant-pressure reactor. Up to 20.

Ignition 1ignition_0

Flame speed targets

Freely propagating premixed flames at the unburned-gas state. Each costs about four ignition cases. Flame-speed sensitivities (adjoint) can be added to up to 2 flames. Up to 5.

Reference data (optional)

Measured targets to compare against, one row per condition: condition_id (from the target cards), target (ignition_delay or flame_speed), value, and unit (s, ms, us, m/s or cm/s), with optional uncertainty_pct and source. Conditions without a row are reported as predictions only. Up to 500 rows.

Comparison settings

How ignition is detected, how close a prediction must be to pass, and which reactions to rank.

Attribution needs reference data and at least one sensitivity ranking.
